Andrew McKinnon became interested in instrumental music as a teenager when he briefly studied Classical and Modern guitar. In 2001 he came back to music inspired by a friend and took up the study of violin and later joined a small amateur string ensemble performing in concerts, and from this group a string quartet was formed. Since moving to Newcastle in 2005 Andrew has briefly continued his violin studies and at the same time joined the Nova Arts Orchestra. Towards the end of 2005 he took up a term of singing lessons at the Newcastle Con. In 2006 he moved on to Barnes Music where he commenced singing lessons with Heather Price and then Jennifer Barnes and has recently completed AMEB Grade 6 in Voice. Andrew’s theatre debut was in Shining Isle with JJK productions in late 2006 and since then has performed in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar and then in The Pirates of Penzance, as Samuel, with Maitland G&S. More recently he performed in Miss Saigon for Opera Hunter. He has enjoyed working with the cast of the Magic Flute and looks forward to more opera performances in the future.
