Newcastle born Bass Baritone, Ashley, completed a Bachelor of Music at the Newcastle Conservatorium in 2001, after which he relocated to Melbourne to study at the Victorian College of the Arts Opera Studio, graduating in 2004.
Ashley has become an experienced and versatile performer with many Opera, Operetta and Musical roles to date. Some highlights include The Vicar Albert Herring, Antonio Il Viaggio a Reims, The Pirate King The Pirates of Penzance, Pluto Orpheus in the Underworld, Svengali in the world premiere of Trilby, Nick Shadow The Rakes Progress, Publio La Clemenza di Tito, Papageno Die Zauberflöte, Count Danilo The Merry Widowand Figaro The Barber of Seville.
For the last six years Ashley has been touring as a Principle Artist with Opera Australia’s Oz Opera. In addition to his busy touring schedule Ashley performs regularly with Opera Australia Chorus and Pinchgut Opera.
Cantillation and Australian Brandenburg Orchestra also see Ashley regularly performing as a choir member and soloist, most recently with ABO in Purcell’s Come ye sons of Art: Ode to Queen Mary in Sydney and Melbourne.
For Newcastle Festival Opera Ashley has sung in many concerts around NSW and performed the roles of Papageno The Magic Flute, Count Danilo The Merry Widow, both of which he was nominated for CONDA awards and Gugliemo Cosi fan tutte.
