Javier Vilarino

Javier Vilarino
Javier Vilarino is in 2nd year at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Opera Studio, where he has performed the roles of; Sid (Albert Herring) under the baton of Maestro Stephen Mould; Presto (Les Mamelles de Tirésias); Gaudenzio (Il Signor Bruschino); Enrico (Il Campanello). This year he has performed the roles of Herr Reich and cover Falstaff in Die Lustige Weiber Von Windsor (The Merry Wives of Windsor) and Orphée in Les Malheurs d’Orphée. Other operatic roles include; Mother (Seven Deadly Sins); Don Alfonso (Cosi Fan Tutte) and Signor Cascada (The Merry Widow) for the Newcastle festival opera company headed by Ghillian Sullivan and various roles including The Drunken Poet and Phoebus for the Mardi Gras Festival's production of the Fairy Queen where he had the immense pleasure of working with dancer, actor, choreographer Neol Tovey. This year he opens the premier season for Opera Prometheus as Tancrede in Andre Campra’s Tancrede. Javier's Oratorio credits include; Handel's "Messiah" with the Muswellbrook Conservatorium’s Orchestra and Choir in 2007 and 2009 under their director Mathew Wills, Rossini's "Petite Messe Solennelle" with the Willoughby choir and conducted by Sarah Penikah-Smith in 2010; Mozart's Requiem Mass in D Minor and Charpentier's Te Deum in D major with the Sutherland Shire Choral Society conducted by Luke Gilmore in 2010. He was very fortunate earlier this year to receive a scholarship via the Helpmann Fellowship and used this grant to travel to Barcelona, where he worked with legendary musician and accompanist Prof. Dalton Baldwin.  He is also one of four singers that make up ENCORE, an ensemble that dedicates itself to performing a large range of repertoire including opera, music theatre and Jazz. Encore has embarked on two regional tours of Australia and most of Asia and was also the headline act for the world youth day final concert for 50,000 pilgrims.
