Laura Coall graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. Highlights during her performance studies were the roles of Thisbe in La Cenerentola, Sorella Infermiera in Suor Angelica; Madame Bubble in The Pilgrim’s Progress, also understudying the role of Mrs By-Ends in the same production, as well as chorus work in Semele, Venus and Adonis and Going into Shadows. During 2004 she worked for Opera Queensland, creating the title role in Sean O’Boyle’s opera, The Songbird. This production toured throughout Queensland as far north as Townsville, throughout the Sunshine Coast and the Brisbane Metropolitan area. Other engagements include the roles of Pamina in The Magic Flute, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Josephine in HMS Pinafore, Yum Yum in The Mikado, Young Heidi in Follies,Sybill in La Cage aux Folles, Julie in Fossils, and Dianna in A Little Dab’ll Do Ya. On the concert platform, Laura is a principal artist with the Mueller International Chamber Orchetra. She has been a soloist in Handel’s Messiah and Mass in the Time of War as well as Schubert’s Mass in C, Jenkins’ Requiem Mass , and Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostrae. She has also appeared in Beethoven’s Mass in C, Stravinsky’s Les Noces, and Bach’s St Matthew’s Passion. She performed in Southbank’s Jammin’ festival at Red Room Cabaret, premiering Not Your Kinda Girl, a new work by Chris Drowdowski. Laura is also an accomplished contemporary pianist. She has worked fortnightly in local Brisbane restaurants and vineyards as a piano-woman and fronted her own jazz quintet for two years, releasing their debut EP in 2005, Live in the Chapel. Laura is also featured on recordings for Red Room Cabaret and The Queensland Conservatorium. In 2009, Laura has returned to QCGU to complete a Postgraduate Diploma of Vocal Studies in Classical Voice, and won the Elizabeth Muir Scholarship for Postgraduate Voice.
