New Zealand born Richard Hansen has recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma of Music Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts. He is currently undertaking an Honours year at the University of Newcastle under the tutelage of Paul McMahon. This is his second production of The Magic Flute having previously sung the role of Genii for Opera New Zealand as a 13 year old in 1999. Richard is a regular soloist in St Andrew’s Cathedral Choir and member of the Choir of Christ Church St Laurence. He has also sung extensively with St Paul’s Cathedral Choir Melbourne, and Sydney Philharmonia Chamber Singers. In 2007 Richard appeared in Pacific Opera’s Barber of Seville and earlier this year sang the role of The Notary in their production of La Sonnambula. Later this year, Richard plans to travel to the United Kingdom to undertake further operatic studies and is looking forward to the challenges which the performance world will bring.
