Sue Carson

Sue Carsonhas anastounding vocal range which has captured audiences in her over 18 years as a professional musician. She can encompass any genre of music from opera to contemporary pop, country, folk, and musical theatre. Essentially a coloratura soprano, Sue’s versatility has allowed her to play roles from Mozart’s Queen of the Night to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carrie in Carousel and Rosalinde in Strauss’s Die Fledermaus. She has also played Heloise in the original production of Abelard and Heloise, (composer Ross Fiddes, Libretto Prof Paul Kavanagh). For Opera Hunter, Sue sang Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd and Susanna in Marriage of Figaro, (the latter with the Ghillian Sullivan- Ian Cook team). An award winning multi-instrumentalist (violin, guitar and mandolin), Sue is probably best known around Newcastle for her band work, with several quality groups such as Sligo Maid , pop trio Love That Hat and duo SMS with Michael Stove (The Sue and Mikey Show). Sue won Best Female Vocalist at the ABC Music Awards in 2004 and has been a finalist in several other categories for original compositions. Sue thrives on the diversity of her musical endeavours. She is in demand as a contemporary vocal teacher at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music and enjoys recording original material in her home studio. Sue joined Newcastle Festival Opera for the inaugural Opera Expo 2007 and “Let’s Make an Opera!” and the role of Fiordiligi in NFO’s Cosi fan tutte, in 2007.
