Vivien Jones

Vivien Jones
Vivien Jones became involved with costume construction when her son joined Young People’s Theatre in 1991 and has been their costume designer and wardrobe coordinator since 1996. She enjoys working with the students at YPT and helping them gain theatre experiences through YPT productions. She intends to continue doing this for as long as she can, often working on 4 or 5 of YPT productions a year. In 1995 she began working with adults in the Newcastle theatre community through her association with Opera Hunter, e.g. Oliver at the Civic Theatre and many productions since. These have included The Merry Wives of Windsor, La Belle Helene, The Merry Widow, Die Fledermaus, Westside Story, Oklahoma, Sweeney Todd and more recently The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni. Since her retirement from Primary School teaching, she has been able to spend more time doing what she enjoys, the challenges of creating for, working with, and spending time with the members of various Newcastle theatre companies. She was Head of Wardrobe for Shakespeare et Al’ s production of Abelard and Heloise at Newcastle Cathedral, Svengali produced by Roma Duff Productions at the Honeysuckle Theatre, Community Theatre Newcastle’s production of Grease at the Civic Theatre and Stringybark’s production of Ned Kelly in 2003. She has designed and organized costumes for the new Newcastle Theatre Company’s (formerly Newcastle Repertory Club) for many years. Her costume designs have featured in many CONDA Award winning shows for Young People’s Theatre, Opera Hunter and the Newcastle Theatre Company. She has received CONDA nominations every year since 2001 for her work at YPT, Opera Hunter and the Newcastle Theatre Company. In 2007 she won a CONDA for her costume designs for Animal Farm at Young People’s Theatre
